Sibu
A cultural riverside hub on the mighty Rajang River.
Welcome to Sibu
Sibu is a bustling river city located at the confluence of the mighty Rajang and Igan Rivers in Sarawak. It serves as a historic gateway to the rugged interior of Borneo, rich in cultural heritage and famous for its vibrant food culture and historic trade routes.
Foochow Traditions & Kampua Noodles
Sibu is celebrated for its unique Foochow heritage, which is reflected in the local food scene. Visitors flock to try Kampua Noodles, a simple, delicious dish of hand-pulled noodles tossed in savory oil and topped with sliced pork, alongside fresh, crispy clay-oven baked Kompia flatbreads.
The Vibrant Borneo Cultural Festival
Every July, Sibu hosts the massive Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF). This ten-day event is one of the largest multicultural gatherings in Sarawak, bringing together Iban, Chinese, Malay, and Melanau performers on grand street stages. Travelers can explore massive food zones showcasing rare ethnic dishes, watch traditional warrior dances, and listen to the beautiful, hypnotic sound of the Sape (traditional lute).
